Using H DuPont Classic Silk Dyes for a Dye Bath
I’ve never used any silk dye for a dye bath, but it is certainly possible with some silk dyes.
Over the years I received questions about Dye Baths and H DuPont silk dyes, so here is what I’ve found out.
The manufacturer states:
H-DUPONT Classique Steam Set Dyes
Silk and wool dyes
- Allow to color animal fibers such as silk or wool
- Are acid based dyes. These allow to obtain the most vibrant colour results with excellent resistance over time, to light and to wash.
- The dye penetraters into the fabric and is fixed by steaming. Both sides of the fabric are thus coloured.
- The high concentration of colour allow you to use the dyes pure or diluted for all types of silk painting techniques.
- A wide range of 85 different colours available.
- These colors can be used for painting or dyeing
- The dye bath consists of water, 1 to 5% of white vinegar and 0.5 to 15% of DUPONT CLASSIQUE colour depending on the desired intensity and the amount of textile to be dyed.
- The fixing is done in a steamer or in the microwave
I’ve never used a microwave for silk dyes (I’ve never owned a microwave!) so I am not able to shed any more light on this process.
The first best way to find out how to use these processes is to contact the Manufacturer H DuPont (The Clay and Paint Factory SA in Belgium). Some online research has found their Contact Us page on their website
