Class: Silk Painting Bookmarks and Cards
Many people prefer to hand-paint small pieces of silk, rather than start with an entire scarf.
With this in mind, I’ve hosted workshops (online and in person) where Students paint on smaller pieces of silk, which takes away the immediate fear of painting on a larger piece of silk.
Part 1: Overview of creating Silk Bookmarks
After discussing different types of silk, and different painting techniques with silk dyes, we prepare the silk and draw simple designs — or no designs at all 🙂 The silk will be used for both bookmarks and cards.
below: The WHITE silk is stretched on a frame, and the silk dyes and outlines are carefully applied.
After we create and hand-paint the bookmarks, we attach them to the backing and then laminate them to protect them:
Part 2: Hand-painted Silk Cards
After finishing the bookmarks, we move on to the silk cards. The cards and envelopes are included for each Student.
This is a half-day class, and the Students take home gorgeous bookmarks and cards.
