Wondering where to buy pre-designed silk scarves online?
Other artists have been wondering the same thing over the years, and I’m very pleased to let you know I’ve seen these “in the wild”!
This means that I saw them in every store which sold silk dyes and silk scarves in Paris, France when I lived there in the 1980s.
They were popular in the USA too for a while, bit not any more.
A French friend of mine started to paint on silk before me in the early 1980s, and he was invited to create some scarf designs for Arty’s in France. For decades he created new designs and they were added to silk scarves by a process which added the Gutta (outline/resist line), making it super easy for beginners to paint on silk.
Here we are in 2023 and it is still possible to find pre-designed silk scarves in France – well, actually Belgium now because the main silk painting products’ supplier from Chambon-sur-Lignon retired, and sold his business to a wonderful company in Belgium.
Yes – that was all a bit of a history lesson, but as it’s something I’m very familiar with, I thought you might not mind 😀

PS – these pre-designed scarves are not for everyone, but for those who have been struggling, it is a very good way to avoid the “Gutta” step of preparation 🙂
