3-Prong Silk Claws and Hooks

How To Attach Silk To Wooden Frame

I recently received a question from the delightful Victoria:

Victoria’s Question about 3-prong Claws:

I’m going crazy trying to find the old 3 prong needle hooks to attach my silk scarves to a PVC frame with rubber bands.

Any idea where I can find them and/or what the brand name is?

My Answer

In regard to the 3-prong claws for silk painting, I haven’t bought them for years.

They became extremely expensive.

They became harder to find.

So I came up with my own solution, and instead of using 3-prong claws, I now use safety pins. The benefits of using safety pins are:

  • They are very inexpensive.
  • They are easy to find in every country.
  • They can be used with ribbon attached to them, or rubber bands depending on which ever one you prefer.
  • They can be used with wooden frames which you can see in my photo, and they can also be used with the plastic plumbers tubes as frames.

In my experience they work extremely well and replace 3-prong claws completely.

On this website, I have a photo and a description of how I use them, which you might find helpful; here is the link:

I hope this helps, best of luck with your silk painting adventures!
Cheerio for now.
