Teena Hughes Silk Artist Textile Designer

About Teena Hughes - silk artist, textile designer

Hi! I am Teena Hughes, silk artist and textile designer born in Australia and a Gypsy travelling through space and time to share my love of bright colours and the incredible art of silk painting.

I’ve been painting on silk since the early 1980s (for over 40 years already) and I’ve been teaching silk painting almost as long, in France, Australia and USA.

I learnt how to paint on silk in Paris in the early 1980s, in French, and immediately knew I’d found what I’d been looking for. Picking up the soft hair paintbrush and dipping into the bright, vibrant French silk dyes made my heart sing, and once I started to paint the different colours onto the tightly stretched white Habotai silk, I was IN LOVE!

The knowledge of silk painting needs to be shared, and I’ve been teaching students in person for decades, as well as online over the past twenty years.

The joy of seeing everyone’s face break into huge grins when they realise that yes, they CAN paint on silk is priceless, nd such a joy to experience! 🙂

My Silk Painting Adventures in Paris have been very popular, and always a lot of fun. I take my students to the silk painting store where we buy silk dyes and silk, and then go back to the Studio to paint for the day. We also take a river cruise for lunch, and a champagne cruise at dusk on the River Seine – fantastique!

If you’d like to chat about silk, please do phone me in Australia on 0408-801-808 or send me an email >>

In 1992 I was a Member of the Artists For Life Group which launched the Hands Up campaign to assist endangered species awareness.

I met Sam Neill, Glen Robbins and many other Australian celebrities who were keen to have their palms painted and pressed onto canvas to create unique art. The canvases were later sold to raise awareness.
