Can I use Gamblin Cold Wax Medium for artists?
Joanna's Question about Gamblin Cold Wax Medium for artists
Hi Teena,
I love wax and have been doing faux batik on silk with hot wax. The fumes really bother me and would like to try your cold wax method; however, not sure what to buy.
There is a product called Gamblin Cold Wax Medium for artists. Is this it?
Any help in locating product in USA would be so appreciated.
Thanks so much, Joanna
Teena's Answer
Hi Joanna,
Lovely to hear from you!
Oh please do be careful with the toxic fumes from hot wax! The dangerous fumes are one of the many reasons why I don't use it, and it's imperative that you wear a mask and work in a well-ventilated area if you're going to heat wax.
I just had a look for your cold wax online and found this:
"Gamblin recommends wax medium to thicken your oil or alkyd paint and to provide a matte finish."
OK, that answers our question :-) It won't be the right cold wax to put on your silk.
The cold wax for is fabulous! I bought mine in France, and if yours says 'cold wax' on the bottle, then buy it and give it a go. It shouldn't be very expensive.
Read the instructions on the container, and if it sounds similar to mine, then jump right in :-)
Testing out new things in silk painting is such and adventure, and so much fun ...
Let me know how you get on!
